EHIC — the European Health Insurance Card

The card (EVAK in Latvia) entitles you to necessary state healthcare in the EU and EEA, Switzerland and the United Kingdom — on the same terms and at the same rates as local residents. It is free of charge.

European Health Insurance Card

What the card gives you

State healthcare

Treatment in public medical institutions on the same terms as residents of that country.

Urgent care

Help in case of sudden illness or injury that occurs during your trip.

Chronic conditions

Necessary treatment where a condition requires medical care while travelling.

What the card does not cover

Private clinics

Services of private medical institutions are paid for by you.

Return home

Medical transport back home is not included in the card.

Planned treatment

Important

The card does not replace travel insurance. It does not cover private clinics, repatriation, trip cancellation or lost luggage. We arrange an insurance policy separately — it works alongside the card.
